Tips for the Measurement of Shapes

You can all but count on a few questions about the measurement of shapes on the GED Math Test. If you have that basic skill down, that's points toward the 145 score you need! A few tips:

  • The formulas are provided so you really are being tested on your ability to think about shapes

  • The questions will likely include both a picture and text

  • Sometimes the length of a shape is not shown in the picture but instead mentioned in the text

  • In almost every case, you will be able to use the calculator for these questions

  • Questions about how much paint to cover a wall, carpet to cover a floor, etc. are usually referring to area

  • Questions about crown molding, length of a fence, etc. are usually referring to perimeter

  • Questions about cubic measurements such as how much water in a pool, product in a rail car, etc. are usually referring to volume
